Making ROOMS TTRPG Podcast

These sub-15 minute episodes are my ruminations about designing, publishing, and finding community for the Explore ROOMS™ TTRPG available on YouTube and Spotify.

Eric Oakland

I am a creative marketing professional with 25 years of experience as a freelancer and business owner in print and digital media.

My first TTRPG was AD&D back in high school.

In my 20’s I played MMOs and dabbled in creating comics and concept design for video games.

In my 30’s I started a family and a video production company, and dove into the narrative side of tabletop miniatures gaming.

And now, in my 40’s I am jumping into the indie TTRPG space, with dreams of building a game & book publishing company to share stories and games that he’s created with his kids that he hopes others will love as much as they do.

Why Now?

I wanted to share my love of roleplaying with my kids, but I found it difficult to find time to learn and prep complex systems, and my youngest didn’t take to the violence present in so many kid games.

Thus, Explore ROOMS were created!

During the pandemic, my kids and I created a room-to-room exploration role playing game that entertained us for hours and hours during walks, at the pool, in the backyard, in the hammock, at bedtime, and more.

We took what we believed to be the core elements of a TTRPG and made them easy to introduce and play without any prep or bookkeeping.

And am so excited to share this game with others.

30+ Years of Gaming

  • In the 90’s I played a AD&D cleric with a warhammer of petrification who died when he petrified the giant snaked that had coiled around him while swimming in a dungeon pool. Whoops.

  • In 2000’s I played a MOO cyborg who had previously been an instrument of war but now ran the cyberpunk city streets as a delivery bunny.

I also GMd the MOO for many years helping players navigate the rules and etiquette of the space.

  • I created a ton of home brewed and kit-bashed Age of Sigmar armies like the Drukharidron Sky Pirates - good natured elves who sailed the aether-skies of ghur hunting giant sky-sailfish.

I also ran Warhammer and Warcry narrative events for 50 people at Adepticon multiple years in a row.
